![]() Important Notice: Scam AlertPlease be aware that there have been several attempts to defraud individuals selling items through the Security Service FCU Trading Post. The scam has the following characteristics: A seller posts an item, such as a vehicle, for sale on the Trading Post The seller receives an e-mail or phone call from a prospective "buyer" offering to purchase the item The "buyer" may mention that they are located in another country or are buying the item on behalf of a client The "buyer" tells the seller, either in the initial e-mail, in subsequent e-mails, or by telephone that payment will be made with an "official check" The "buyer" will tell the seller that these "official checks" are made out for an amount greater than the negotiated purchase price of the item, sometimes several thousand dollars above the purchase price The "buyer" will then tell the seller to bank wire the excess funds back to the "buyer" or to mail back a cashier's check in the amount of the excess funds If you are contacted by anyone proposing a transaction matching the description above, please do not accept the offer. The checks are not legitimate and the account holder is ultimately responsible for all deposits made to their account. The Trading Post is a service offered through CUserv.com and as a user of this service, members are solely responsible for reviewing and determining the legitimacy of the offer. Neither SSFCU nor CUserv.com, screens, controls the content, or monitors the behavior of the participants to the site. However, if you suspect someone is engaging in a scam similar to the one described within this notice, we encourage you to contact Security Service FCU immediately. |
